To ensure good governance the SAMED committees are governed by the following SOP’S.

Current committees and their key objectives include:

1. SALDA/SAMED Africa Forum
The Africa Committee is largely an informative committee for the SAMED members. The main objectives include a database of information about African country requirements for medical device and IVDs, sharing information for importation and registration purposes or doing business in South Africa as well advocacy efforts for promotion for IVD and MD business on the continent. This committee keeps abreast of all information to understand the requirements for the industry in the different countries on the continent. They are then able to share best practice, successful systems and efficient processes with other countries on the continent.

2. Code of Business Practice Committee
This committee aims to ensure that SAMED members are aware of and embrace the Medical Device Code of Ethical Business and Marketing Practice.

4. Government Procurement Committee
This Committee aims to partner with Government, to overcome shortcomings of supply chain management (tender) system. Report contraventions, assist with outstanding payments.

5. Health Economics and Reimbursement Committee
This Committee focuses on influencing the reimbursement and health technology assessment of medical devices and technologies in both the private and public sectors.

6. Orthopaedic Special Interest Section (OSIS)
OSIS is specifically involved in Elective Orthopaedics, Trauma and Spine, working closely with the Orthopaedic association SAOA. The Committee has ongoing engagement with the South African Orthopaedic Association (SAOA) re: congresses, venues, fair market value, fellowships

7. Regulatory Committee
This Committee focuses on influencing the creation of an effective legislative environment for the medical devices industry. The Committee also works towards ensuring the harmonization of device classification with international best practice and establishing a process for the speedy approval of combination medical devices.

8. Transformation and Small Business Committee
This Committee aims to enhance business sustainability by increasing participation of people from previously disadvantaged backgrounds in the medical device industry and growing small business within the Medical Device industry
